Super GT Round 4 Sepang

The SUPER GT INTERNATIONAL SERIES IN MALAYSIA race, Round 4 of the 2009 AUTOBACS SUPER GT, was held at the Sepang International Circuit (lap = 5.542 km x 54 laps) in Malaysia on June 21 and the GT500 class winner was the HASEMI TOMICA EBBRO GT-R driven by Ronnie Quintarelli and Hironobu Yasuda for their first victory of the season.

To avoid the midday heat of tropical Malaysia, the race was scheduled to start at 16:00 (local time). The second-place qualifying HASEMI TOMICA EBBRO GT-R started from the front of the grid due to machine trouble with the pole position winning MOTUL AUTECH GT-R that caused it to start from the pit lane.

The HASEMI TOMICA EBBRO GT-R's starting driver, Quintarelli, kept that lead to lap 30 before turning the wheel over to teammate Yasuda at the routine pit stop. Once Yasuda took over, he was never threatened for the lead, due in part to a furious battle for 2nd position raging behind him. Eventually, he ran on to victory with a big lead over the field.

Kumakubo vs Saito Wallpaper

Just wanted to create this wallpaper featuring the Kumakubo/Saito matchup at the D1GP USA event in Anaheim. Not sure if we will get to see a full blown D1GP event here in the US with all of the japanese drivers participating any time soon so this will have to hold us over 'til then.

Ford Focus RS Video

Ford keeps teasing us by developing cars like these for Europe that we will never see here in the US. We will have to see what they have planned for the Fiesta here in the states next year. So far, the only marketing push we have heard about for the Fiesta is that they gave 'em out to hipsters and granola types to driver around and "blog" about it. Lameness, they should give us one to build out as a rally car.

WRC Acropolis Rally Results

The Acropolis Rally once again proved why it is the destroyer of cars this year by knocking out some of the top drivers in the WRC. Day 2 saw points leader Sebastien Loeb hitting a rock and rolling the car five or six times to end his rally. Teammate Dani Sordo crashed as well while in 2nd place but was able to restart on day 3 under Super Rally rules and eventually finished in 12th. Petter Solberg also retired on day 2 after his front left damper mount broke and sent the unit through the hood.

In the end Mikko Hirvonen took the win for Ford with Sebastien Ogier on the Citroën Junior Team in 2nd and Jari-Matti Latvala coming in 3rd after recovering from going off the road at the end of day 1.

The championship points race just interesting with 5 rallies to go and Loeb leading Hirvonen by 7 points. Next stop Rally Poland end of the month. For more info, visit wrc.com.

MODE Racing Genesis Coupe Debut

MODE Racing’s Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T Makes Its Redline Time Attack Debut at Round 2 at Willowsprings Raceway

Orange County, CA) MODE Racing made their official debut at Redline Time Attack during Round 2 at Willowsprings International Raceway in Rosamond, CA. The table was set as the MODE Racing’s Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T made its way from its engineering and fabrication facility in Salt Lake City, Utah to the hot and humid conditions at the “Fastest Track in the West”. Over 100 cars were on the grid from the stock, street, modified, and unlimited classes and MODE Racing was the single modified class Hyundai Genesis in attendance.

New modifications included a full roll cage, white Enkei Racing wheels, MODE Racing prototype turboback exhaust system, MODE Racing prototype intake, Stoptech 6-pot Front Brakes, coilovers, a Sparco Circuit seat, interior weight reduction, Sparco steering wheel, and a performance ECU piggy back system. The track is known to favor the higher horsepower vehicles but with some weight reduction and slight power bump, driver and owner of MODE Racing, Billy Brooks, was still optimistic about the Genesis’ performance.
