2011 AUTOBACS SUPER GT Series Round 3,
Perfect win for last year's GT champion team!
The SUPER GT INTERNATIONAL SERIES MALAYSIA race, Round 3 of the 2011 AUTOBACS SUPER GT, was held at the Sepang International Circuit (lap = 5.542 km x 46 laps) in Malaysia (on June 19). The GT500 class winner was the pole-starting Weider HSV-010 driven by Takashi Kogure and Loic Duval. To avoid Malaysia's midday tropical heat in, the race start was scheduled for 16:00 (local time) in the late afternoon. Starting from the pole position (1st position on the grid), the Weider HSV-010 driven by Loic Duval gradually opened up a lead of the 2nd-place S Road MOLA GT-R (Ronnie Quintarelli). When Duval began to encounter GT300 class back-markers and lose time in passing them, the S Road MOLA GT-R closed in on his tail at one point. However, with its faster pace when running alone, the Weider HSV-010 (Duval) was able to maintain its lead all the way to the routine pit stop. Then the wheel was turned over to Takashi Kogure. Next, the S Road MOLA GT-R made its pit stop. After quick pit work the team sent the GT-R back into the race with Masataka Yanagida in the driver's seat. From the pit exit Yanagida got out on the track in front of Kogure. At this point, however, Kogure was obviously running at a faster pace and he managed to take back the lead on the second turn of that lap. After that, Kogure never let anyone get close to him as he built up an impressive 14-second lead by the time he took the checkered to win the race. Despite being last season's GT champions, the Weider HSV-010 had not been able to come through with good results in either of the first two rounds of this season. Round three here at Sepang finally gave them their first win of the season. This represented the fourth win for the Honda HSV-010GT since its debut last season. For Kogure this is his fifth career GT win, and for Duval it is his fourth.

Global RallyCross Championship Rd3 Result
Posted 2011-06-20, 22:18:32 PST by press Tags: event coverage, rally COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 19, 2011 | GLOBAL RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP) - Two-time World Rally Champion Marcus Grönholm earned a hard-fought rallycross victory Saturday at the Global RallyCross Championship: Last Chance, held at Pikes Peak International Raceway near Colorado Springs. The legendary Finnish driver put in a consistently strong performance in the Best Buy Ford Fiesta, advancing into the final race with wins in every heat. "I am very happy for the win. I got the launch right and had a good start," said Grönholm. "Then I was in front and just focused on my driving." Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust was gunning to overtake Swede Michael Jernberg in Saturday's action-packed eight-car RallyCross final when the duo got caught up in a crash mere feet before the finish timing line. Neither driver was hurt, but both cars were disabled at the side of the course while Subaru Rally Team USA driver David Higgins and privateer Stephan Verdier drove past them to finish in second- and third-place, respectively. "It's a miracle finish, but I'll take it," said Verdier, a privateer driver who has made a series of impressive appearances at the front of the pack this season.

Formula DRIFT Round 4: The Gauntlet Results; Long Beach, Calif. – June 18, 2011 – Formula DRIFT returned to Wall Speedway for Round 4: The Gauntlet. The capacity event was action packed with Conrad Grunewald in the Hankook Tire Chevy Camaro taking the victory. This marked Grunewald's first victory in Formula DRIFT history and second podium since 2005. Round 4: The Gauntlet at Wall Speedway was another exciting event where the combination of the banking on the track and the competitive nature of the drivers pushed them to the limits. As a result a few of the vehicles were damaged in competition in dramatic fashion keeping them from advancing to the later rounds. The fans witnessed a true showing of world class drifting. “Despite the brief storm that caused chaos after qualifying on Friday, the Formula DRIFT community pulled together to help one another to put on another great event,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “Fans came out to fill the capacity of the venue on Saturday to showcase the ever growing sport this season.”
