World Challenge Gone Wild and BFG in the WRC

Michelin is set to launch their BF Goodrich brand into the WRC next year. BFG has a three-year contract with the WRC and will be the tire of choice for the Ford and Skoda.

We caught a little bit of the Speed World Challenge races this weekend and were impressed by the amounts of crashes and accidents these guys get into. It's like watching a videogame. The series is very fast paced with production based cars if you haven't seen it before. Seriously though, these Mofo's are crazy.

Nothing to do this 4th of July weekend in lala land? Come hang out with the 'Scene-ster's at the Echo for fuckyeahfest. Our friends Toys that Kill will be rockin' out this joint. For all of you homophobes, don't let the gay looking picture on the homepage scare you.

MotoGP @ Laguna Seca July 8-10th. Only general admission and swanky VIP packages are still available. Get 'em while they are still available. Our money's on Rossi to take this one to keep his streak alive. Formula D is up in Sonoma that weekend as well so decisions, decisions.

Press Release: Falken Tire Time Attack

Falken Tire breaks new ground…once again.

Falken Tire Corporation is proud to announce and title sponsor the first ever time attack competition on the world famous Pike Peak Hillclimb mountain course. The Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hillclimb is one of the oldest motorsport events dating back to 1916. Now having over 2.8 miles of paved roadway, it lends itself well to the growing sport of Time Attack racing…with a twist. Time Attack can be best described as a timed “hot lap” running one vehicle at a time on a designated course.

The inaugural Falken Tire Pikes Peak Time Attack will be run uphill and downhill on the paved portion of the famous mountain course. Not only will this challenge the drivers with the task of putting forth their true skill, it will also showcase every aspect of the handling capabilities of the new Falken Azenis RT-615 performance tire. The uphill and downhill course times will then be combined to then crown the winners of each vehicle category. The lowest combined time wins.

“Not only is this an exciting new event, but also a great way to truly show the performance of our Azenis RT-615” states Darren Thomas, Falken’s Director of Marketing. This year’s competition will feature a field of 12 vehicles. Although “open classes”, vehicles will be separated into rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive categories. “Using registered street vehicles and track machines gives all onlookers and fans something they can relate to. Not only that, the combination of street vehicles and the ultimate street tire will be a great way to display true performance at a grassroots motorsport enthusiast level.” says Nick Fousekis, Performance Marketing Manager for Falken Tire Corp.

Please visit www.falkentire.com for more details and don’t miss this exciting event on June 25th in Colorado Springs, CO.

The F1 fiasco - When the Sh!t Hits the Fans

F1 and the FIA just set back Formula 1 racing in the US for the foreseeable future. If you saw the fiasco this past weekend, you will understand why we won't be going to a race here in the US for a long time. This is a prime example of what happens when politics, egos and $$$ enter into the equation. It's hard to believe that a bunch of old men couldn't agree on a solution.

The FIA has ordered the Michelin teams that withdrew from the US Grand Prix to appear at a hearing of its World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday June 29 for a scolding and good spanking.

Our bros over at Nemesis Records and Imaginasian TV are sponsoring the New York Asian Film Festival from June 17-July 2. Check this out if you are in the area.

Rockstar is releasing Bully, a GTA-esque game set in a reform school called Bullworth Academy. Now, everyone in the world will get to experience the South Central academic experience.

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Tyrese, Better Luck Tomorrow.

Justin Lin, director of the Asian/Am flick "Better Luck Tomorrow," has been signed by Universal to direct the third installment of the "Fast and the Furious" franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter states that "the new film will be set in Tokyo amid the underground world of Japanese drift racing," and that none of the principals from the previous entries will be needed for this follow-up."

Translation - "we're not going pay you money grubbin' jackasses (actor from the previous movies) sh!t and just hire no name actors for the lead roles".

Our agents are already calling to get us an audition for a part in this one.

Formula D Results

Back in black from muggy and humid Houston TX for the Formula D event. Excellent competition with decent spectator numbers; some coming from as far away as FL and CA to check out the event. The weather killed all of our spoiled fancy pants from lala land.

Winners:
1st - Ken Gushi killing it in the Ford/Toyo Sponsored Mustang. Ford better "sho him the money" next season if they want to keep him.

2nd - Conrad Grimwald in the Motorsports Dynamics/Falken sponsored S14. This a privateer team funded by Motorsports Dynamics and supported by Falken. This was Hubert Young's car last year. It's awesome to see that the DIY guys still can shake things up. Big ups to Conrad/Henry and the rest of the crew for making this happen.

3rd - Rhys Millen in the RMR Pontiac/Yokohama GTO. What can you say about Rhys; always consistent; smooth and stylish in that LS1 monster. We're going to have RMR build us a '67 Nova drift car soon.

Other notables on our road trip - after party free-for-all in downtown Houston; no arrests. killer steaks at Saltgrass and a nice 4am wake up call from the fire alarm going off on our floor. Let's hope this doesn't become a regular occurrance on the Formula D tour.

Either we're getting too lazy to post the On the Scene articles or you guys are getting to lazy to read all of it. This feature will be a regular column with many of the degenerates on staff here contributing. We may even get some special guests to chime in sometimes. Yeah, like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, wait throw in Darth Vader and Yoda on this list as well.
