Ford pulled the "slow down at the end of the final stage" strategy at the end of day one so they could go second after Loeb on day 2 to gain better road conditions. Apparently this didn't work out as planned because Loeb still won from the front position. Mikko Hirvonen did make up some time on day 3 but it just wasn't enough to beat Sebastien Loeb who won the rally by a very close 9.8 second margin.
