Drift Showoff Houston

So what does it take to create the best drift event Houston has ever seen? Some JDM Rides? Sure, we'll take some of those. JDM Drifters? Not bad, we'll take a pair of those. JDM Teeth? No, not quite.

"Koguchi making peace with the Seagulls"

The Showoff in Drift Showoff means that there was an infamous "Import Showoff" event there also. Notorious for the clean cars that show up to Import Showoff, many of the clean rides were able to compete with the best of them no matter what coast you live in. Team iMotion took the honors for Team Showoff and there cars I have to admit look good. Well, I guess there wouldn't be a need for ugly rides @ a car show.

"Falken Twins getting sideways on the Apex"

As for the other part, Falken Tire brought out three of it's drivers and their cars. In the lineup, Koguchi in his Sileighty, Yamamoto in his S14, and Calvin Wan in his 240SX Hatchback, all Nissan powered of course [duh!] laying down massive amounts of rubber. A lot more rubber than you're used to for sure!

"Taka's Ride from Drift Association"

Surprisingly however, you don't need to be JDM or even have a Japanese ride to win at Drift Showoff. Basically it's pretty much how much you can slide your ride. Not bad for a state known for its trucks and steaks. Taking home first and third place @ Falken Tire Drift Showoff were the V8 powered rides of American Muscle. First place bragging rights belong to Derrick Rodgers in his El Camino, oh yeah, you heard me, El Cammizzo! Second place honors given to Mike Sanchez in a MK3 Supra, and last but not least, a C5 Corvette driven by Chris Ramey took home third.

"Ben Shwartz's Beautiful S13 Coupe"

So will drifting events nationwide be seeing more V8's? Quite possibly. The hype after Drift Showoff Houston proved that you don't need to drive a Hachi or anything with a SR20DET under the hood to win. Don't get me wrong kiddies, SR20's are damn cool. In fact, I'm going to go buy one right now. Just kidding, us writers work for food.

"Koguchi Recycling tires back into the atmosphere..."

Quite possibly the most entertaining thing at the event was the fact that Koguchi, Yamamoto and Wan were serious enough to burn through about as many tires your car uses in it's lifetime. So what's so cool about Koguchi? Did you say his car? NO! You've got it all wrong, way wrong. What gives Koguchi the ability to go sideways is his hair, remember, JDM hair is what makes a drifter. So for now, I'm going to try to grow a big head of hair and dye it orange so I can drift... Check out www.driftshowoff.com for future events. Don't forget, we're taking Drift Showoff to Pike's Peak! See ya soon!
